George's Island

For Mel's birthday, in July, she wanted to go to George's Island. It's a small island that houses a revolutionary war fort, equiped with cannons, prisons, underground tunnels, bunk houses and an armory. It was used to defend against the British. Nate's Mom and brother were visiting then. We had a blast. Then in October, we made a return trip with our friends.

This is one of the awesome undergroung tunnels in the fort. It's pitch black under there! We literally couldn't see our hands in front of our faces. On our first trip, on Mel's birthday, we had to use the flash of our cameras to see where we were going. The creepy part was trying to feel our way around by touching the walls - they were damp and slimy. On our return trip, on Columbus Day, we took flashlights! A must!

Boston Light. The oldest working lighthouse in America. The British bombed it with cannons in the 1700's as they were leaving. Then it was rebuilt (in the 1700's). You can go up the lighthouse and go on a tour, but it was too expensive.

The boys in jail, where they belong. This is one of the jail cells where they kept the traitors and such.

It's a 30 minute ferry ride from the beautiful city of Boston to George's Island. Mel got a little sick, but doesn't she always?
